Shakira To Sing The Official World Cup Song

Shakira had a hit with the special World Cup mix of Hips Don’t Lie, so now she’s singing the official World Cup anthem Waka Waka (This Time For Africa).  No, I’m not making that up, though it sounds like something Fozzie Bear might invent, it’s an actual song.   It apparently borrows the chorus form a popular Cameroonian chant, I guess that’s where the Waka Waka comes from.

Shakira will sing the song live at the Closing Ceremony on July 11th at the Johannesburg Soccer Stadium.  Shakira will perform it with the South African group Freshlyground.  It seems right that Shakira would be singing the World Cup theme, being from Colombia, which like every nation in the world is football-crazy, unlike the US!  Shakira is truly a global artist, who can sell records in any part of the globe, especially when she gyrates that sexy body of hers!
